LOVELY LIQUID LOUNGE

Jin Xing (CN)
Born 1967 in Shenyang in the Northeast of China, Jin Xing started dance education at the age of nine, at the local military dance school.
Only 17 years old, she received the “Best Dancer of China Award”. At twenty, she became the first dancer in China to obtain a grant to study in New York. In 1991, she won the “Best Choreographer Award” at the American Dance Festival for “Half Dream”. After six years in the US and in Europe, Jin Xing returned to China. In 1996, she set up the Beijing Modern Dance Ensemble, the first modern dance troupe in China. In 1999, she founded “Jin Xing Dance Theatre” as the first private dance company in China. In 2006, she established “Shanghai Dance”, an independent festival for contemporary dance. Jin Xing’s artistic achievements have received recognition, not only from international audiences, but from art institutions as well. In November 2006, she was bestowed an honorary degree by the Dartington College of Arts, UK.

Chris Haring (A)
Choreographer and dancer. Has worked with international choreographers and companies such as DV 8 Physical Theatre London (GB), Nikolais/Luis Dance Cie (USA), man act (GB), Nigel Charnock (GB), pilottanz (A), Willi Dorner (A), Tanz*Hotel (A), and others. He lives in Vienna as free-lance artist. He also worked with artists from various fields, amongst them Erwin Wurm (Fine Arts), Mara Mattuschka (Filmmaker) and Peter Rehak (Musician). Together with multimedia artist and composer Klaus Obermaier he developed the videodance performances D.A.V.E. and Vivisector. Both Science Fiction, and viewing the body as cybernetic landscape, are probably his most important inspirational sources for his work: the production “Fremdkoerper” was nominated for “best performance” at the Biennale de la Danse in Lyon, 2004. In 2005, he founded Liquid Loft together with Andreas Berger, Stephanie Cumming and Thomas Jelinek and choreographed the performances “Kind Of Heroes” (Burgtheater Vienna, 2005), “My Private Bodyshop” (Tanzquartier Vienna, 2005), “Running Sushi” (ImPulsTanz Festival Vienna, 2006). More recently, he developed the tripartite “Posing Project” series: “The Art of Wow” (Tanzquartier Vienna, 2007), “The Art of Seduction” (Golden Lion at the Biennale di Venezia, 2007) and “The Art of Garfunkel” (ImPulsTanz Festival Vienna, 2008).

Andreas Berger / Glim (A)
Lives in Vienna as a freelance musician. Since 2003 two releases as glim – music for fieldrecordings (2003), aerial view of model (2006) both on karate joe and HEADZ (www.faderbyheadz.com). Member of mimi secue (www.mimisecue.com), le charmant rouge (www.charmant-rouge.com) and contour. Collaborations with the choreographer Chris Haring (www.liquidloft.com), manoa free university (www.manoafreeuniversity.org), Mara Mattuschka, Michaela Grill.

Lisa D. (A/DE)
Designer, born in Austria. Lives in Berlin. Since the mid 80s she is  into design, fashion, performance and theatre. Beside  „ lisa D“ designed for the activist course of life – located in Hackeschen Höfen Berlin-Mitte-  she is producing and operating the label „ global concern“ and „blackboat people“.  In cooperation with several musicians (Olga Neuwirth, Wolfgang Mitererzeitkratzer) authors ( Elfride Jelinek) artists (Swetlana Heger, Eran Schaerf, Jörg Schlick, Flatz)  actors ( otto Sander, Petra Morzé) and collegues (Fiona Bennet) she planned, designed and arranged outfits for several shows, performances and actions, you can call  „narratives in the language of fashion“ . Currently she is working on a book on fashion and literature.

Thomas Jelinek (SE/A)
Born in Stockholm. Stage director, dramaturgue, curator, multidisciplinary artist. Created various video and space installations, music/performances and has worked in television productions, architectural projects and as a curator. As a stage director he has realized various performance, opera and theatre projects in public and theatrical areas in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and France and has worked as a dramaturgue for various dance productions. He is joint founder and leader of MESSING network. Since 2000 he is chairman of IG Kultur Vienna (association of independent artists and cultural organisations/Vienna), founder of NOMAD theatre (2000) and the LABfactory (2002) and Co-Founder of liquid.loft (2005). In 2006 he was guest professor at Willem de Kooning Academy (Rotterdam/NL).

Stephanie Cumming (CA/A)
Following her classical training in Canada and the USA, Stephanie graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. She worked in Calgary with Nicole Mion and in Vancouver with Battery Opera. She has been living in Vienna since 2001 and has worked with Johannes Randolph, Tanz*Hotel, Doris Stelzer, Hubert Lepka and media artist Markus Wintersberger. She has also been working with Chris Haring since 2003 and together with him, Andreas Berger and Thomas Jelinek founded Liquid Loft in 2004.  Stephanie performed in the pieces “Fremdkoerper, diese Körper diese Spielverderber…”, “Kind Of Heroes”, “My Private Bodyshop”, “No One’s Coming” and “Running Sushi”. In 2004, Haring choreographed the solo “Legal Errorist” for which she was named Outstanding Young Dancer in the Ballett-Tanz magazine.  She also received a danceWEB scholarship in 2004. Stephanie starred in the film version of “Legal Errorist”, directed by Mara Mattuschka, which continues to be screened internationally (London Film Festival, Cannes, San Francisco Film Festival, among others).  Further film collaborations include “Part Time Heroes” and “Running Sushi”, also from Mattuschka, and most recently the film project “Tell” with artist Erwin Wurm. In 2007, Liquid Loft created “Posing Project A: The Art of Wow” in Tanzquartier Vienna and “Posing Project B: The Art of Seduction”, which went on to win the Golden Lion at the Biennale in Venice. Most recently, Stephanie performed in Liquid Loft’s latest work “Wintersonne” for the opening of the Austrian pavilion at the Expo in Zaragoza, Spain. In June 2008, Stephanie had her choreographic debut with “Rodeo Queens”, a piece created with x.IDA that premiered at the Choreographic Centre Linz.

Jakob Lena Knebl (A)
Born 1970. Graduated from the University of Applied Arts in 2006, Department Professor Raf Simons. Later, University of Fine Arts, class of Professor Heimo Zobernig. Together with Gerald Grestenberger, d-g-v, co-operator of the artist run space “auto”. Member of the design collective “house of the very island’s club division middlesex klassenkampf but the question is where are you, now?” Exhibitions and Performances (selection). Hans Scheirl (A)

Born in Salzburg in 1956, Hans Scheirl studied restoration at the Academy (now: University) of Fine Arts Vienna. From 1978 to 1985 he was part of the performative music and sound experiments of “8 or 9″ and “Sinister Omen”. Between 1979 and 1996, he made over 50 short films on super-8. He lived in New York from 1981-82, working for Arleen Schloss’ off-space “Wednesdays At A’s”. Formerly known as Angela, Hans put his name on the map with the “Queer Avantgarde” transmedia feature films “Flaming Ears” (‘Rote Ohren fetzen durch Asche’) and “Dandy Dust”. He spent 16 years living in London, where he became part of the queer and transgender artists’ scene. In 2003, he completed his postgraduate Master Studies of Fine Arts at the Central Saint Martins College of Art&Design. Hans Scheirl has been living in Vienna since 2005. In 2006, he received the Government Scholarship for Fine Arts. In the autumn of that year, Hans was appointed professor for “Contextual Painting” at the University of Fine Arts Vienna.

Nino Jaeger (A /USA)
Visual Artist, currently student at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Department Contextual Painting (Prof. Hans Scheirl), graduated from the University of Salzburg in 2002. Exhibitions:Okreni Oqueer!” - Queer Sarajevo Art Festival at Academy of Fine Arts Sarajevo (2008), (BiH). Make Human Rights Work” curator W. Koppelman at Rathaus Schöneberg (2008), Berlin (D).Participation with “Congratulations on the happy event” at Gallery Tristesse deluxe, “Achtung: FSK 18″ (2007), Berlin (D).Participation with “Pipistrello: Dolce Vita” at the Feminist and Queer Festival “Red Dawns – Rdeče Zore 8th” (2007), Ljubljana (Slo). Since 2004 trainer in grassroot media education at Orange 94.0 – Free Radio Vienna. From 1993 to 2006 cooperation with various sociopolitical feminist associations. He produces the radio show Radio Unsichtbar on Orange 94.0. Various publications of photographs and texts in queer/trans*gender anthologies and magazines. Workshops in the field of queer action and survival kit for queers, as well as alternative media education.
